PRODUCT CAPABILITIES

What’s in scope.

01

Point-of-sale entry

Record the sale and payment through the POS interface. Each terminal can be configured with its payment methods, while each person who sells is defined as a POS user.

02

Tendering and cash-up

Support multiple payment methods and cash tendering in more than one currency. The shift process includes a cash-up by the POS user and confirmation by a manager.

03

Sales controls

Keep price and discount overrides subject to manager approval. Defined users, terminals and approval responsibilities provide structure around the counter-sales process and end-of-shift review.

04

Offline and hardware support

The published offer includes offline working on supported PC or mobile setups and a hardware station for compatible POS devices. Device, peripheral and synchronisation requirements need to be checked during setup.

Set up the till and the closing process

LightPOS depends on Business Central licensing and configuration. Braintree can scope the terminals, users and peripherals alongside how sales and payments are recorded, reviewed and connected to stock and financial records.

✓

Define POS users, terminals and payment methods.

✓

Confirm supported till drawers, printers and mobile devices.

✓

Test offline behaviour and the return of transactions to the system.

✓

Agree manager approvals and the end-of-shift cash-up process.

01

Bring a focused sales screen to the counter

LightPOS is the point-of-sale extension described by Braintree for small retail, counter-sales and factory-outlet requirements. It brings invoice entry and tendering into a sales interface connected to Business Central accounting and inventory. The offer is centred on a relatively simple till process, so the evaluation should begin with the transactions the counter team actually performs.

A useful starting scenario is a customer purchasing stocked items at a terminal, paying through a configured method and receiving the appropriate sale record. The demonstration should follow the sale into Business Central so that the operations and finance teams can inspect how their existing stock and account structure supports the counter workflow.

02

Define the person, terminal and tender

The product page describes basic setup assistance, POS users and terminals with their own payment methods. Every person who sells is defined as a POS user, and each terminal is configured for the payment methods it accepts. This makes user responsibilities and terminal configuration part of the implementation rather than an afterthought once hardware is installed.

The published capability includes multiple payment methods on one sale and cash tendering in more than one currency. The review should establish the currencies and tenders the business actually accepts, how the end-of-shift totals will be checked and how those transactions appear in finance. Support for a particular payment-service provider should be confirmed separately from the ability to record a payment method.

03

Give managers defined approval points

Price and discount overrides require manager approval in the documented sales workflow. At shift end, the POS user runs a cash-up and a manager confirms it. These are distinct controls: one authorises a change to a sale, while the other reviews the results of the shift.

An implementation should make both steps concrete. Identify who can approve an override, who closes each terminal and who investigates a difference between the counted tender and recorded sales. The product page establishes the approval and cash-up capabilities; the organisation supplies the operating rules and the people accountable for using them.

04

Evaluate offline selling with the intended equipment

Braintree’s product information describes offline operation on supported PC or mobile setups and a hardware station for POS peripherals such as till drawers and receipt printers. This is relevant for a counter that needs continuity through connectivity interruptions or for an agreed mobile-sales scenario. It is not evidence that every peripheral or every function works without a connection.

The review should demonstrate the actual device, the intended peripherals and the process when connectivity returns. Confirm which data is available offline, how the proposed sale is captured, and how the resulting records return to the central environment. These are acceptance questions for the configured solution rather than additional capabilities claimed by this page.

05

Scope the complete opening and closing routine

The published requirement includes Business Central licensing. Braintree can assess the appropriate licences, POS users, terminals and hardware for the organisation’s intended use. The scope should include setup, the proposed sales routine and the end-of-shift handover so that a successful till demonstration also answers the finance team’s questions.

  • List sites, terminals, POS users and the manager responsibilities at each counter.

  • Confirm the required tender methods, currencies and any payment-provider dependencies.

  • Review the stock, pricing and accounting records used by the sales process.

  • Demonstrate an ordinary sale, an authorised override and user cash-up with manager confirmation.

  • Test the agreed offline scenario and the return of transactions to Business Central.

  • Confirm device and peripheral compatibility before hardware is selected.
